Postharvest laboratory

Local stone fruit grower, packer and shipper LeRoy Giannini built the first stage of the Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center's postharvest laboratory and donated it to the university in 1992 for the advancement of all growers through postharvest research. Later, a second stage was added to the facility, which now includes:

3 laboratories and 1 gas analysis instrument room
18 controlled temperature and relative humidity rooms (8 of which are capable of controlled atmospheres)
4 controlled temperature chambers
2 gas mixing boards
An electronic fruit sizer and color sorter
A research washer/waxer post harvest treater
Assorted fruit quality testing equipment
A sensory evaluation center to support current and future needs of the agricultural industries and consumers
